Medical weight management in Istanbul

A personalised, non-surgical pathway addressing health, nutrition, behaviour and medication when clinically appropriate.

Obesity is a chronic, relapsing health condition. A medical programme looks beyond willpower, helping you understand the biological, behavioural and environmental factors that affect weight.

A medical assessment reviews weight history, sleep, eating patterns, movement, mental wellbeing, medicines and obesity-related conditions.

Treatment may include nutrition, activity, behavioural strategies and prescription medicine when clinically appropriate. Medication is not suitable for everyone and must be monitored.

The goal is durable health improvement. Progress is reviewed over time and the plan can change as your body, circumstances and priorities change.

Clinical first

Website information is general. Your own suitability, risks, preparation and recovery plan must be confirmed in a personal clinical assessment with Dr Kenan Afilitak and the care team.

02How it works

What the treatment changes—and what it does not.

01

Whole-health assessment

Weight history, sleep, eating patterns, movement, mental wellbeing, medicines and obesity-related conditions are reviewed together.

02

A layered treatment plan

Nutrition, activity, behaviour strategies and prescription treatment when appropriate are combined around your clinical needs and preferences.

03

Review and adaptation

Response, side effects, barriers and health markers are reviewed over time. The plan changes when your needs or circumstances change.

May be considered for

Who might explore this option?

  • Adults who prefer to begin with a non-surgical pathway
  • People who do not meet criteria for bariatric surgery
  • Patients preparing for surgery or maintaining progress afterwards
  • People who need a coordinated review of weight-related health
Informed decision-making

What needs careful discussion?

  • Prescription treatment requires eligibility checks, contraindication review and monitoring.
  • Side effects, cost, availability and what happens after stopping medicine should be discussed.
  • Rapid or unrealistic promises are a warning sign; treatment response varies.
  • A sustainable plan should support sleep, nutrition, movement and mental wellbeing—not weight alone.
03Before you travel

Preparation starts at home.

A safe international pathway begins before flights are booked. Your coordinator will tell you which records and tests are needed.

  1. 01Prepare a timeline of previous weight-management approaches
  2. 02List current medicines, supplements and any previous side effects
  3. 03Gather recent blood results and information about related conditions
  4. 04Consider sleep, stress, eating patterns and movement limitations
  5. 05Identify health goals beyond the number on the scale
  6. 06Discuss pregnancy plans and other factors that affect treatment choice
04Your care pathway

From assessment to supported recovery at home.

01Review

Understand the whole picture

Your clinician explores medical, nutritional, behavioural and environmental factors.

02Plan

Choose appropriate tools

Together you agree realistic goals and the combination of support most suitable for you.

03Start

Introduce treatment safely

Any medicine is prescribed only after contraindications, interactions and monitoring needs are considered.

04Review

Measure more than weight

Health markers, symptoms, side effects, function and quality of life can all inform progress.

05Long term

Adapt and maintain

Obesity is managed as a chronic condition, with continued support rather than a short course or quick fix.

07Ask Dr Kenan

Useful questions for your consultation.

Meet Dr Kenan Afilitak
  1. 01Which health conditions or medicines may affect my weight?
  2. 02What are the benefits, side effects and stopping plan for medication?
  3. 03How often will treatment response be reviewed?
  4. 04What happens if the first approach is not effective?
  5. 05Could medical treatment support surgery preparation or weight recurrence?
08Detailed answers

Understand before you decide.

A responsible assessment makes room for uncertainty, alternatives and every question you need to ask.

01Does medical weight management always include injections?

No. Medication is one possible tool, not the whole programme. The plan depends on your clinical needs, preferences, contraindications and access.

02Can medical treatment be used before or after surgery?

Sometimes. It may support preparation, improve health before an operation or help manage weight recurrence. This should be coordinated by clinicians familiar with bariatric care.

03Is obesity a matter of willpower?

No. Biology, health conditions, medicines, sleep, stress, environment and behaviour can all affect weight. Effective care is respectful and addresses the whole picture.

04Will I automatically be prescribed weight-loss medicine?

No. Prescription treatment is only one possible tool and requires an individual eligibility, contraindication and monitoring review.

05What happens if medication is stopped?

Weight regain can occur after stopping some treatments. The likely duration, maintenance plan and alternatives should be discussed before starting.

06Can medical management be used after bariatric surgery?

Sometimes. It may be considered for weight recurrence or other clinical needs, but should be coordinated with professionals familiar with bariatric care.
